The Commonwealth Preschool Partnership Initiative (CPPI) helps New Bedford Public Schools and local community preschool programs work together to provide high-quality early learning opportunities for young children. Through shared curriculum, assessment practices, and coordinated services, CPPI expands preschool access, supports family choice, and helps ensure all children are prepared for a successful transition to kindergarten.

Expanding Access to Affordable, High-Quality Preschool
CPPI helps make preschool more affordable for families by providing scholarships and subsidized tuition so children can attend preschool at little or no cost. The partnership also supports full-day and full-year preschool options and provides additional resources such as mental health supports, social work services, transportation, and connections to community resources.

Building High-Quality, Aligned Preschool Programs
CPPI brings public schools and community preschool programs together to align curriculum, assessments, policies, and professional development. This collaboration helps ensure that children receive consistent, high-quality learning experiences that support early literacy, school readiness, and a successful transition to kindergarten.

Supporting Inclusion and Special Education Services
CPPI promotes the full inclusion of children with disabilities in all preschool settings. Through an itinerant team model, children with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) can receive the specialized supports and services they need within their preschool classroom, reducing barriers and helping them learn alongside their peers.

How does CPPI connect?

Our Partnerships between New Bedford Public Schools and the community-based programs provide services and supports to each child within the CPPI classrooms by using a comprehensive service model.

Community Based

Provide services and supports for each child, family, and educator in CPPI classrooms, at home, and across the community.

Individualized

Partner with families and educators to create a plan tailored to each child’s individual needs.

Strength Based

Build on families’ and educators’ strengths to grow their knowledge and skills.

Culturally Relevent & Family Centered

Respect each child and their family’s values, culture, and identity, and support families as active partners in their child’s learning.

Who are our CPPI team members?

Coordinator

Our coordinator ensures plans run smoothly, aligns services and systems, and reviews partner data to support children and families.

Speech & Language Pathologist

Helps develop communication, articulation, social interaction and early literacy skills.

Occupational Therapist

Helps develop foundational motor, sensory, and self-help skills.

Special Education Teacher

The special education teacher provides IEP supports and uses Child Find screenings to identify children who may need further evaluation.

Instructional Coach

The instructional coach supports teachers, observes classrooms, reviews data, and leads training to help educators grow.

Wraparound

Our wraparound coordinator builds relationships to support children and families with their needs, while engaging and empowering families.
